Camden Giving’ Panel+ Programme

Panel+ is a 5 day training course aimed at residents with lived experience who want to be more involved in decision-making in their community.

Camden Giving has awarded 146 grants totalling £2.5million to projects in Camden that help to overcome local inequality. But we haven’t done this alone! We think that the people affected by our funding decisions, who have experience of the challenges their communities face, are the best people to say which projects we should support.

So far 36 unique 'Resident Panellists' have participated in our grant programmes, designing the priorities and criteria for each through attending a series of training and creation sessions, ultimately make decisions on which projects they want to fund.

But we would like to help the Resident Panellists understand how their funds are invested more effectively through extending their knowledge, learning and development in grant-making even further.

What does it involve?

The Panel+ Programme will put even more Camden residents in the driving seat of their borough.

We will recruit a cohort of 10 Camden residents, paying them London Living Wage and covering childcare expenses, to attend a series of workshops every Thursday for 5 weeks from 24th October to 21st November, on topics including:

  1. Effective Communication and Confidence

  2. Charity Finances

  3. Data Analysis and Impact

  4. Visit Foundations and Corporate Giving schemes to learn about different styles of grant-giving

  5. Visit a wide range of Camden civil society organisations to learn more about their funding

Our Ambitions

Panel+ will enable 10 local residents to have a more effective say in grant-making in their community and will form part of our future grant-giving panels, and possibly have the chance to explore decision-making roles with other funders. We hope the programme will allow the group to explore careers and other opportunities within the civil society sector. Ultimately by providing more training and support around decision-making to residents on our panels we will provide better informed funding that has a bigger impact on our communities and a stronger civil society.
