Strategic funding decisions at Camden Giving are made by our Alumni Network, formed of Camden citizens who have previously held grants with Camden Giving and/or been part of our community decision-making panels in the past. We conducted a vote among our alumni to determine whether this year's Equality Fund recipients should have the opportunity to support local businesses by including for the ‘Camden Pound’ initiative with their grant award. They voted overwhelmingly in favour of the initiative.

What is the Camden Pound?

The Alumni network have decided that this year’s Equality Fund recipients will be eligible to apply for the 'Camden Pound' which is an additional grant of up to £2,500 to spend on services and products from Camden-rooted businesses, owned or founded by Camden residents from the global majority and/or disabled leaders.

This year, the Equality Fund will focus on addressing unfair treatment experienced by people living in Camden due to their race or disability. We recognise that these inequalities can happen independently or at the same time. As a result of this focus, we are introducing the concept of the 'Camden Pound.'

Camden Giving has always aimed to bring together individuals, organisations, and businesses within Camden to support the borough's development by fostering partnerships. Supporting local businesses is more likely to benefit residents from the global majority and the disabled community. It also helps in building strong, long-term partnerships and contributes to the local economy.

All businesses that register for the Camden Pound will be checked and approved by Camden Giving. We will have an updated list of approved Camden businesses on this page by the end of October.
