Altogether now and always
To the communities of Camden,
If the attack in Manchester leaves you scared to go to synagogue.
If the attack in Peacehaven has made you nervous to put on your hijab.
If you are queer, but can't be free in your sexuality because of homophobia.
If living as the gender that is true to you, makes you nervous to go for a swim.
If your age means someone rolled their eyes when you spoke.
If going to the pub in your wheelchair was just too hard because the doors don't open wide enough.
If you hold your keys in your hand on the way home because your gender means you are afraid.
If the way you talk means you weren't taken seriously in that interview.
If you thought racism would weaken generation by generation, but now you aren’t so sure.
If your mental health looks great on social media, but feels terrible in your head.
If being working class makes you feel forgotten.
If you don't feel your voice is loud enough to change things.
If many of these things are true, or if inequality means something different for your life, you are welcome and valued at Camden Giving. We see your sadness and anger. We will try our best to be hope for you. We don’t think we can achieve our mission without you and the unique role you can play in making our little part of the World better. We’re a place where people come together, even though their experiences may be different, sometimes that’s hard, but mostly it’s beautiful and joyous.
Inequality exists every day in Camden, but sometimes it feels darker and now is one of those times. If the World has made you cry over the last few days, then know we were crying with you.
The purpose of Camden Giving is not to write blog posts about inequality, it’s to make help people tackle inequality. But sometimes we need to pause and say, Camden is better altogether and we know to be true because we see it everyday in our work and we see it in you.
If you need us, for funding, a cup of tea or solidarity, you can reach out at any time.
