The fund will open again in Spring 2024, check back again then!
Shaped by our alumni of former Camden Giving panellists, this year’s Equality Fund had a more focused criteria than previous years. The fund was and will continue to be focused on addressing the inequalities experienced by Camden residents due to race and/or disabilities rather than addressing inequality in Camden in a broader sense, as had been the case previously.
The panelists acknowledged that these inequalities can be both intersectional and independent of each other. The intention of the panel narrowing the criteria was to make the fund less competitive, and therefore increasing the chances of organisations led by those who experience systemic disadvantage being funded. Going forward, the focus of the 2024 fund will remain as this unless the Alumni say otherwise.
As with previous years, a panel of Camden residents awarded 2-year grants of £30,000. The Equality Fund is our only unrestricted fund, set up to provide unrestricted funding to small charities and social enterprises that actively bring together people from different backgrounds to create communities that can thrive in Camden.
As a participatory grant-maker, decisions for this fund will be made by a panel of Camden residents. This means that people who are surviving inequality are paid, trained, and supported by Camden Giving to give grants. The Equality Fund panel have worked together to design a funding criteria that responds to inequality in Camden. They have written all the questions applicants will answer and will make decisions on who receives funding.
